Past performance after award: CPARS and your response

Practitioner12 min

By the end you can

  • Explain why ratings matter for future bids.
  • Know the minimum time you get to comment.

Every contract you perform becomes evidence. Past performance information, including the ratings and supporting narratives, is relevant information for future source selections about your actions under earlier contracts and orders 1.

In a later competition, evaluators treat past performance as one indicator of your ability to perform and consider the currency and relevance of the information, its source, its context and the general trends in your performance 2.

Check 1
Why do past-performance ratings matter after the contract ends?

You get a chance to respond: the contractor is given up to 14 calendar days from notice that the evaluation is available to submit comments, rebuttals or more information 3. Use that time to correct facts with evidence, calmly.

Check 2
How long does a contractor have to comment on a past-performance evaluation?
