Reading a DIBBS RFQ line

Foundation10 min

By the end you can

  • Find the item, quantity, unit and due date on an RFQ line.
  • Open the official DIBBS record for any RFQ.

Supply buys describe the item first. In the uniform contract format, Section B describes supplies with details such as item number, national stock number or part number, nomenclature and quantities 1.

Bids2Bank's free DIBBS search shows the same building blocks for each open RFQ line: the national stock number (NSN), the item name, the quantity, the unit of issue, the federal supply class (FSC) and the return-by date 2. Each result links to its record on DIBBS, the official source 3.

Check 1
Which field tells you how the quantity is counted (each, box, set)?

Worked example. An RFQ asks for a quantity of 10 with a unit of issue of "BX". A distributor prices ten boxes, not ten pieces, after checking how many pieces DLA's record says a box holds.

Check 2
Where can a national stock number or part number appear in a uniform-contract-format solicitation?
